It’s a very late report, but I was at HyperJapan a few weeks ago. I did one performance, but I want to tell you about my whole weekend!

Note of photos: not all are my own, I took some I was tagged in on Facebook and if you recognise yours and want crediting just drop me a line here! My own camera was on the wrong settings so a lot of my photos didnt work out :c

So, to start with we woke up very early, around 4:00AM, and set off for the airport. It was all okay, until about halfway there we had to stop the car and I almost threw up in somebody’s driveway! I’d been on antibiotics that week and they mustn’t have agreed with the early get up! Luckily I was okay, we got some water and went on our way.

We went to meet my brother at Kings Cross, also went to find Platform 9 3/4 (which was really boring, you had to oyster through and there didn’t look to be anything there so we gave up) and then headed off to Saturday of HyperJapan!

I was going to wear my Metamorphose Lucky Pack dress, but I felt awful so I instead stuck to casual. Wearing casual at a convention is a rarity for me, but it was nice for a change! I met up with my internet friends and we all had a nice catch up and look around the place!

Because it was so close by, we ventured down the road to the cafe in the K-ON! movie, and recreated the photo. Are you impressed?

I also got to meet up with designer Faye de-Boorder, (she restyled the Danjo outfit) and we had a nice catch up! She had kindly printed off a lot of flyers for the outfit!

Faye is also working on a collection for London Alternative Fashion Week. It’s called Manx Idol, and is filled with Japanese-inspired costumes featuring Manx tartan, it’s all really pretty and if you would like to see the collection in action, tickets are free!

I also stopped by the NicoNico.com booth, which was really fun!

Sunday!

Sunday was better. I wasn’t feeling ill, I woke up fairly early and did my makeup and headed to Earls Court once more. It was a lovely day and I got changed and did my hair at the venue! I was pretty relaxed, and met with some vendors while I waited for 10:30 to tick round…

My performance was around 20 minutes long. It featured 5 songs and some talking, and I think it was the best UK performance I’ve ever done! Kelsey and her friends were right on the front row cheering me on which gave me a lot of confidence (thanks girls!) and I made it through the entire show without any major mistakes! Though I do have a secret.. I didn’t have any breakfast that morning because I was so nervous, and that’s why I lost my energy quite a bit in the middle. I certainly won’t make that mistake again!

After that I was pretty much free. I met up with Erica Sharlette from ESPromotions (she ran a fantastic interview with me recently, I’d love for you to read it!) and Deer Oh Deer, a British based fashion brand with some amazing products! They launched their new line ‘Doe So Lovely’ at the event and were kind enough to give me one of their humongous bows and cute Tshirts! I’m not just saying this; the clothes and accessories were to die for, and I can’t recommend you check them out enough!

I then changed into my Metamorphose Lucky Pack dress, I figured I had brought it with me, I may as well wear it. I met with Kelsey and Liss and we had a lovely long chat outside, it was really great to meet with them again and I can’t wait until next time! I also had the chance to meet VenusAngelic, we took some photos together and her and her mum were really sweet!

All in all I had an amazing experience. For any of you who haven’t been to Hyper Japan before, I recommend it wholeheartedly. While MCM Expo is focused on Japanese culture, comics, movies and video games, Hyper Japan is solely based on Japan and Japanese culture.

As a lot of you may already know, I’m going to attend HYPER JAPAN next weekend near Earls Court, London. I’m really excited to go and perform, I’ll be doing a 30min performance on their stage (I’m not sure of the finer details yet but I do know that they broadcast the event over NicoNamaHousou so if you don’t attend you can still watch along live! I’ll make sure to post details when I find out)

I’ve been quite ill these past two weeks, I had started to get rid of a cold when I managed to loose my voice and become ill again! I think it might have been flu, but I’m still a little sick with that so bear with me. I’m always so poorly timed with my illnesses but I want to make sure my performance at HJ is going to be unafflicted by it!

Something exciting is going to appear on my website very soon, so please look forward to it. Here is a sneaky preview!

Hay there Beckii ^^ i thought you would be the best person to ask n____n where is the bezt place to get cosplays/wigs and cute clothes(like maids dresses and gothic lolita clothes)? i'm really stuck, tried ebay but they take years to get here (i'm very inpatient ^^) hehe :3

Hmm I guess Japan is the best place. Maybe search for Rakuten stores, and bodyline can be quite good sometimes. Taobao is also popular. It’s quite difficult to guess what’d be good quality so make sure you research seller feedback etc!

Aww well I guess practice lots in front of a mirror and sometimes record your practice and watch it back, it’s a good way to see the bits you could work on! Just endurance and practice and passion are all you need!

So as I’m sure most of you have heard, HYPER JAPAN will be welcoming the lovely Beckii to the stage on the 26th of February. She has a fashionable and very cute style, we often see her in adorable outfits and accessories for her youtube videos. She also loves bubbly j-pop music, so hopefully she will dance to some cute tracks on stage! I also happen to know that she is planning on releasing two new songs in the near future. I emailed her a few questions about HJ2012, fashion and Japan which she kindly answered for me. So here is the little ‘interview’, exclusive to my blog!

Can you give me any information about your performance at Hyper Japan? Or is it all top secret?

Well I’m planning on not doing my usual set, I want to include some dances which I haven’t covered yet, and I’m trying something new this time, so I hope people will enjoy that if they’ve managed to catch any of my previous shows! I’ll hopefully do a bit of a Q and A and talking throughout as well!

Other than performing, what are you looking forward to at Hyper Japan?

I know that a lot of my friends from England are going, so it’ll be lovely to see them again. I’m also excited to look at all the sellers, it’s hard to get a hold of Japanese candy in the UK, so I always make sure to stock up!

I heard you’ve recently got into Lolita fashion. Why do you like it? What have you bought so far?

Yes I have! Actually, I used to be more into Gyaru, but I think I’m a convert! I really like the shapes and styles of the dresses, and I think I’ll be more into Classical Lolita. So far I got the Metamorphose Fukubukuro, and Chocolate Chess in Pink from Angelic Pretty! I’m absolutely in love, and I hope to continue experimenting some more!

What are your favourite Japanese fashion brands?

I really love LIZ LISA. The floral patterns are so sweet, and the clothes are fashionable yet really wearable. I also like Ank Rouge, but really I like most things with a pretty fabric.

When you go to Japan, where are your favourite places to visit and why?

Definetely Takeshita-dori. When I was stuck in Japan due to the ash cloud, my mother and I went there nearly every day for a week! It’s somewhere I never get tired of, even if it’s only a small back street, I could walk up and down it forever.

The other day I finished learning a new dance, so I’m going to record one of the shots of it today. My plan is to go to the beach and dance it kind of in the water? It’s 9 degrees out today, and manx sea is freezing regardless if it’s summer or winter, but I think it’ll look really cool so I might man up and do it.

Providing there are no jellyfish of course.
